Suno Weirdness vs Style Influence: What Each Slider Does
Suno's advanced options include two sliders that people constantly mix up. They control two independent things — once you see the difference, tuning a track gets much faster.
Weirdness: how adventurous the music is
Weirdness runs from “Safe” to “Chaos”, and 50% is the normal, expected result — not a neutral zero. Lower values give conventional, predictable, genre-typical music. Higher values introduce unusual choices: unexpected instruments, odd rhythms, surprising transitions. Very high settings can become unpredictable.
Style Influence: how literally your tags are followed
Style Influence runs from “Loose” to “Strong” and controls how closely Suno sticks to what you wrote in the Style field. Low values treat your tags as loose hints, so the result can drift away from the genre. High values treat them as firm constraints.
They are two separate axes
- Weirdness = how unusual the musical choices are.
- Style Influence = how faithful the result is to your text.
You can have a very faithful but conventional track (high influence, low weirdness), or an experimental track that still respects your genre (high influence, high weirdness).
Starting points
- You want a clean, on-genre result: leave Weirdness around the middle, raise Style Influence.
- Everything sounds too samey: raise Weirdness a little at a time.
- Suno keeps drifting to a different genre: raise Style Influence and check your first few tags.
- You want happy accidents: lower Style Influence and raise Weirdness, then generate several takes.
Two mistakes to avoid
- Typing slider values into the prompt. Writing “Weirdness: 70%” in the Style field does nothing — they are real controls, not text.
- Changing everything at once. Adjust one slider between generations so you can tell what caused the difference.
A third slider you may see
Audio Influence only matters when you upload reference audio; it sets how much that audio shapes the result. On newer versions you may also see a Variety option that changes how much your prompt varies between generations — set it low when you want to regenerate something close to the last take.
Our generator suggests slider values that match the genre and mood you pick.
